6th Grade Coordinate Plane Project | Plotting Points, Reflections & Distance

$7.00

This hands-on coordinate plane project invites students to explore all four quadrants as they help Anna navigate through Wonderland. Students begin by identifying given locations and recording their ordered pairs. From there, they will work through various tasks involving plotting ordered pairs, identifying quadrants, reflecting shapes the x- and y-axes, finding the area of polygons, and calculating distance. The project concludes with a completed Wonderland map!

This resource is low-prep and easy to implement. All pages are print-and-go, with clear directions, a built-in coordinate map/grid, and an included example design. Project duration is typically 2–3 class periods.

What’s Included

  • 6-page student project packet

  • Example completed map for reference

  • Teacher instructions, prep tips, and optional grading rubric

Please note: Due to the open-ended, creative nature of this project, a traditional answer key is not provided. However, a full example design and an answer key for Part 1 (ordered pairs and quadrants) are included.

Standards Alignment

✔ 6.NS.C.6 – Understand a rational number as a point on the coordinate plane and identify locations in all four quadrants

✔ 6.NS.C.8 – Solve real-world problems by graphing points and finding distances
