5 Easy, Hands-On Halloween Math Activities for Middle School

Halloween math activities for middle school – hands-on student work including tessellations, geometry, and coordinate graphing.

Anyone that knows me, knows Halloween is my favorite time of year! It is so fun to teach…but it’s also very busy. That’s why I made these EASY Halloween math activities that are designed to make your life easier! They are easy to prep, easy to teach, and easy for students to love - all while still hitting those standards. Keep reading to the end for a FREE Halloween craftivity you can use right away!

  1. Halloween Tessellations Art Project

Great geometry activity for 6th, 7th, or 8th grade! Students create their own Halloween-themed tessellations with 3 patterns to choose from - a bat, potion bottle, or witch’s hat. It’s a calm and creative activity that looks incredible on the bulletin board. This resource is also differentiated to suit all classroom learning levels! Click the pictures for more info.

2) Area and Circumference of Circles Halloween Craftivity

Perfect for 7th graders - but easily adapted to 6th and 8th grade! This activity finds your students in the role of a spooky cookie designer. Given a circle cookie template, they will measure the radius and diameter, then calculate how much icing is needed (area) and how sprinkles around the edge (circumference). The decorated cookies is another awesome display!

3. Halloween Math “Fun Sheets” - Worksheet Packs

These are the ultimate collections for print-and-go, need something RIGHT now! Things happen, and it is good to have these packs ready to go. Also, they make for fabulous early finisher activities - so your math class never runs out of things to do! Available for 6th and 7th grade.

4. Halloween Transformations Activity - Translations on the Coordinate Plane

Your students will go batty (sorry, had to) over this hands-on geometry activity! We just started transformations (mid-October) and the timing couldn’t be better. This is a great introduction to translations (sliding shapes across the page). Students will cut out shapes and physically move the pieces across the grid according to each shape’s instructions. The shapes form a spooky mystery picture. This is also a stand-out favorite with my classes year-after-year!

5. Halloween Algebra - Free Spider Equations Craftivity

Thanks for reading this far .. you deserve a freebie! Students solve each equation directly on the spider’s body, color and decorate, then cut and paste their spiders onto the web template.

Hopefully you’re walking away with at least one new idea that’ll make your next math class a little easier (and maybe a little spookier).

Keep teaching math the fun way … hands-on, stress-free, and totally student-approved.
And don’t forget to grab your free Spider Equations craftivity before you go!
