Proportional Relationships and Unit Rates Project - Baking Competition

USD 4.50

Recently Updated!

Your students will love this real-world project that practices Ratios, Proportions, and Unit Rates by participating in a baking competition!

In this project, students will select one of three given dessert recipes. Each recipe only serves a small number of people - and we need to serve all of 7th grade (75 people)! Worked examples will guide students in using proportions to scale up the recipe. Then, unit rates and unit prices for their recipe will be calculated either by researching local grocery prices, or using the "shopping page" price list. No Prep - just print and go! This project took my students 3, 50-minute lessons to complete.

What’s new?
Based on feedback from previous buyers, this project has been improved with a conversion table to simplify ingredient measurement adjustments and a new shopping price list page to guide students in researching and calculating costs more efficiently.

What’s included:

  • Recipe planning pages with 3 recipes to choose from

  • A conversion chart to help students work with different measurement units

  • An updated shopping page for price calculations

  • Worked examples and instructions

  • Marking guide and competition entry form

Perfect for both individual and group work, this project offers the flexibility to be used as a graded assignment, a fun review activity, or a substitute lesson.

Perfect for:

  • Ratios & Proportions Unit

  • End of Unit Project

  • End of Year Math Activity

  • CCSS: 6.RP.A2, 6.RP.A3, 7.RP.A1
